Planning the Ride
The main goal of this adventure was to continue exploring Canada by motorcycle. Before this trip, I had ridden every Canadian province west of Montréal except for Ontario, including Toronto and Ottawa. This ride was dedicated to completing the provinces east of Montréal, giving me the opportunity to experience New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Another major highlight was finally crossing the Gulf of St. Lawrence aboard the Marine Atlantic ferry—an experience that had been on my motorcycle bucket list for years.
Crossing Into Canada
Crossing into Canada was much easier than I expected. All I needed was my passport, and at the time of my trip, much of the entry process was completed through the ArriveCAN app before reaching the border. Once I crossed into Québec, I quickly noticed that French is the primary language, especially around Montréal, and many of the road signs were in French. Despite the language difference, navigating was straightforward, and the border crossing itself was smooth and hassle-free, allowing me to continue my adventure without any delays.
Marine Atlantic Ferry
The Marine Atlantic ferry crossing was one of the highlights of the entire adventure. Boarding the ferry with my motorcycle made the trip feel even more special, and the views across the Gulf of St. Lawrence were unforgettable. If you’re planning this ride, I strongly recommend making your ferry reservations at least six months in advance, especially if you’re traveling during the busy summer season. For the return trip from Newfoundland to North Sydney, consider booking a private cabin. The crossing from Argentia is significantly longer than the trip to the island, and having a cabin gives you a comfortable place to relax, shower, and get some sleep before continuing your ride home. It’s well worth the extra cost and makes the journey much more enjoyable.
Riding Newfoundland
The ride across Newfoundland to St. John’s was nothing short of spectacular. Every mile offered incredible scenery, from rugged coastlines and rolling hills to crystal-clear lakes and bays. The water was unbelievably clear, the people were some of the friendliest I’ve ever met, and the food was outstanding wherever I stopped. Newfoundland exceeded every expectation I had, and by the end of the trip, I knew it was a place I wanted to return to. If you’re looking for an unforgettable motorcycle adventure, I highly recommend putting Newfoundland on your bucket list.
St. John’s
These photos were taken at Cape Spear, just outside St. John’s, Newfoundland—the easternmost point in North America. It was a beautiful, clear day, and the views from the lighthouse were absolutely breathtaking. The ride to Cape Spear was just as memorable as the destination itself, with winding coastal roads, stunning ocean vistas, and scenery that seemed to get better around every corner. Standing at the lighthouse overlooking the Atlantic Ocean was one of the highlights of my entire Newfoundland adventure.
Ride Home
On the return trip, I crossed back into the United States through Maine before making my way to Laconia, New Hampshire, to experience the legendary Laconia Motorcycle Week. From there, I continued south through New England and along the East Coast until I arrived home in Stedman, North Carolina. Looking back, this was an incredible journey filled with unforgettable roads, amazing scenery, friendly people, and memories that will last a lifetime.
