The Dragon (US-129) is Tennessee’s official route for the Harley-Davidson 50 Rides Challenge. Stretching just 11 miles along the Tennessee–North Carolina border, this world-famous road packs an incredible 318 curves, making it one of the most legendary motorcycle rides in America. Riders from around the world travel to Deals Gap to experience its technical turns, beautiful mountain scenery, and unforgettable riding experience.
The official Harley-Davidson checkpoint is the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort Sign, located at 17555 Tapoco Road, Deals Gap, TN 37731. The checkpoint sign is located at the entrance to the resort and serves as the official photo location for completing Tennessee’s 50 Rides Challenge.

Travel Tips
- Stop at the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort Sign for your official Harley-Davidson 50 Rides Challenge checkpoint photo.
- Ride your own ride. The Dragon’s 318 curves in 11 miles demand your full attention—don’t let faster riders pressure you into exceeding your comfort level. Ride early in the morning on weekdays for lighter traffic and a more enjoyable experience.
- Watch for oncoming vehicles crossing the centerline, especially large trucks and inexperienced riders.
- Numerous pull-offs are available—use them to let faster traffic pass and to enjoy the mountain scenery safely.
- Fuel, food, restrooms, and souvenirs are available at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort before or after your ride.
- Consider combining The Dragon with Hellbender 28, the Cherohala Skyway, or the Foothills Parkway for an unforgettable full day of riding through the Great Smoky Mountains.
