The Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway is Nebraska’s official route for the Harley-Davidson 50 Rides Challenge. This unforgettable ride travels through the heart of the Nebraska Sandhills, one of the largest intact grass-stabilized dune regions in the world. Riders experience rolling prairie, peaceful ranchlands, scenic rivers, abundant wildlife, and wide-open skies that showcase the beauty of the Great Plains.
The official Harley-Davidson checkpoint is the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway road sign located along the byway in Nebraska. Be sure to stop for your checkpoint photo before continuing your ride through one of the state’s most unique and scenic landscapes.

Travel Tips
- Fuel stops can be far apart, so top off your tank whenever fuel is available.
- Stop at the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway road sign for your official Harley-Davidson 50 Rides Challenge checkpoint photo.
- Watch for deer, pronghorn, cattle, and other wildlife, especially at dawn and dusk.
- Cell service may be limited in remote areas—download maps before your ride.
- Strong prairie winds are common, so be prepared for changing crosswinds.
- Carry plenty of water and enjoy the peaceful scenery and small Nebraska communities along the route.
