The North Shore Scenic Drive is Minnesota’s official route for the Harley-Davidson 50 Rides Challenge. Following Highway 61 along the rugged shoreline of Lake Superior, this unforgettable ride features dramatic lake views, rocky cliffs, waterfalls, dense forests, and charming North Shore communities. It’s widely considered one of the Midwest’s premier motorcycle rides.
The official Harley-Davidson checkpoint is the Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Be sure to stop for your checkpoint photo while enjoying one of Minnesota’s most iconic landmarks overlooking Lake Superior.

Travel Tips
- Ride during late summer or fall for outstanding weather and spectacular Lake Superior scenery.
- Stop at Split Rock Lighthouse for your official Harley-Davidson 50 Rides Challenge checkpoint photo.
- Temperatures along Lake Superior can be much cooler than inland—bring an extra layer, even in summer.
- Watch for deer, moose, cyclists, and rapidly changing weather conditions.
- Fuel and restaurants are available in Two Harbors, Silver Bay, and Grand Marais.
- Take time to visit the many scenic overlooks, waterfalls, and state parks along Highway 61.
