Welcome to Ohio River Scenic Byway

The Ohio River Scenic Byway is Illinois’ official Harley-Davidson 50 Rides Challenge route. Beginning in Shawnee National Forest, the ride features winding roads, sandstone bluffs, scenic overlooks, and beautiful views of the Ohio River before ending in Metropolis, Illinois.

The official checkpoint is the Superman Statue in Superman Square, where riders can capture their challenge photo and explore the official Home of Superman.

Travel Tips

🏍️ Ride the route during spring or fall for the best scenery.
⛽ Fuel up before entering Shawnee National Forest.
📸 Stop at Garden of the Gods for panoramic views and photos.
🦌 Watch for deer, especially near sunrise and sunset.
🛣️ Enjoy the sweeping curves but ride within your limits.
🍔 Plan time to explore downtown Metropolis after your checkpoint photo.
🦸 Visit the Superman Museum and local shops while in town.
🌤️ Check the weather before riding, as storms can develop quickly in southern Illinois.
